Party Resource Guide
Presented by Event & Wedding Planners

Our party planners have gathered everything you’ll need to decorate, and celebrate with flair to "spare", and to guarantee all-star action for everyone!  Decorating for a bowling party can be fairly simple, because typically this party will be held at a bowling alley and the focus will be on bowling.  Try to greet guests with a festive welcome, and create striking tables for eating, and for food and gift display!

BOWLING PARTY IDEAS

Set the stage for an all-star PBA Tour event complete with dazzling player introductions, pumped up music, and play-by-play commentary.   A karaoke machine is the perfect tool for a sports commentator to call the play-by-play!  Recruit a sports nut for the job.  Give the announcer the guest’s names and some pre-scripted notes.

The key to pulling off a coordinated event: Evoke your theme throughout the affair, it should be the subtle thread that ties everything together. Your location, invitations, flowers, menu, cake, and favors should all cleverly reflect one common concept. Then, get as creative as you can!

Choose a slogan to use in your invitations, and to use in tying in decorations and personalized favors to your bowling theme. Try one of the following, or brainstorm with the guest of honor to come up with the perfect slogan for your party:

  1. ”Can you "Spare" the afternoon? We're celebrating Brad's birthday!”
  2. “Tessa's Bowling Bash!”
  3. “This party will be right up your "Alley"...Let's "Strike" up some fun for William's birthday"

Hang a Bowling Customized Memories Banner to avoid gutter ball decorations.

TABLE TOP TIPS:

Remember the tops of the tables provide you with a very large surface area and covering them with a themed tablecover or a beautiful solid colored tablecover is the easiest way to change the look & feel of a room. You can use several colors for tablecovers if desired, but we suggest no more than three colors.

Setting a table with the Bowling Party Ware, including the cups, plates, napkins, and cutlery is the fastest way to create a focal point in a room. To create a designer look coordinate themed partyware with solid colored tableware. For example: If you are using themed plates, then chose a solid color for the tablecover. Place a solid colored napkin down into a themed cup to add color to the tabletop. Add forks, knives & spoons in a color that coordinates with the color of the tablecover.

Bring color to the table via napkins. Give each person two napkins slipped into one napkin ring. Use two different colors, two coordinating patterns or one patterned and one solid-colored napkin. A colorful setting can be achieved with little effort this way.

Tie napkins with curling ribbon, gossamer steamers, or add theme associated items (beads, bracelets, necklaces, sunglasses, headbands, rings, ribbon, or flowers) to serve as a napkin rings.

The napkins can be laid out on a serving table, or can be displayed at each place setting. Place napkins in the center of each place setting at an angle. The cutlery can be added before the napkin is tied.

Unfold the napkins, pinch each in the center of the napkin, and place the center point in the bottom of each glass or cup. This adds a decorative touch while the glass or cup is still empty.

Order Napkins and have them imprinted with the design of your choice.  The napkins will serve several purposes…great decorating in disguise and a treasured memento for the birthday person.

Curling ribbon can be made into curls and scattered over tabletops for an inexpensive and easy decorative touch.

Streamers can also be used to accent tabletops by making rosettes that can be attached to the corners of table, they can also be used to make bows for gifts.

Place one 12 X 12 “ linoleum square (select one that looks like hardwood "alley") under each plate as a placemat.  Add red arrows with a red paint pen if you wish.

Display your birthday cake in the center of the table…the guests will love the close up view!

When decorating chose one large items if possible, over a lot of small items. It will have a greater impact. Bowl 'em over with this fun photo prop! This BOWLING STANDEE can be used for decor and also as a great photo prop.

Never underestimate the power of balloons in decorating! Big impact and very cost effective. Visit our balloon decorating tips for instructions on making balloon decor.

BOWLING PARTY ACTIVITIES

Although this party will typically be held at a bowling alley, and the bowling itself will be the headline activity, a bowling birthday party just wouldn’t be complete without some additional striking activities!

Recruit a couple of friends to dress up as Bowling Pin , and take pictures of the guests goofing around with this larger than life animated props.  You'll treasure the pictures and the ensuing silliness for years to come.  As an alternative, make each guest bowl a few frames dressed in a costume.  Who knows...scores may improve?

Purchase an inexpensive colored T-Shirt for each guest from a discount store (such as Wal-Mart- approximately $3.00-$4.50/top). On the back left corner of each shirt write each guest's last name using fabric paint or even a permanent marker.  On the front of each shirt add a team name that involves the guest of honor's name or slogan.  "Steve's Strikers"; "George's Gutter Guys"; "The Alley Cats"; ""Spare" me the drama!!", etc.  If you are dividing the group into teams, purchase two different colors of bowling shirts.  For this purpose...the tackier the better.

At the conclusion of bowling, be prepared to hand out some fun awards.  Regardless of the age of your guests, they'll get a kick out of the awards: Best Bowling Pose, Longest Prep Routine, Most Ball Jams, The "Splitster", "Pick up" Artist, High Score, Thought we were playing Golf (low score), Gutter King, Alley Cat, Striker, etc.  If children are involved, make sure that you have one award for each, and that no feelings will be hurt.
